LAPE (The Particle Physics Lab at the Institute of Physics – UFRJ) was created in 1993 and has since been developing research in high energy physics participating in international collaborations. It became a member of the LHCb collaboration at CERN in 1998 and participated in all the preparatory stages of the experiment. The main goals of the LHCb experiment are the search for the unexpected difference between matter and antimatter in the Universe and studies of the rare decays of particles that have bottom and charm quarks. At LAPE we work on data analysis in B, charm and forward physics, detector and software development.
Today LAPE counts with 11 researchers, in addition to graduate and undergraduate students.

LAPE is member of the REde NAcional de Física de Altas Energias (RENAFAE)
